Lee Roy Selmon blends the merits of football scholarship in his home with volunteering in the community. One of the first things he did is to help his relatives. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children in a Eufala farm. He was also one of three siblings who represented Oklahoma in football. The three brothers were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy was named the most offensive lineman in the nation by the Outland as well as Lombardi Awards. He won two championships and the score was 32-1-1 over his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. In 1975, Selmon was awarded his third scholarship, and was recognized as an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon earned a degree from the University of California at Berkeley. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout his time in college. After college, he moved to Tampa and played nine years for the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. He then began his career. In 1988, he worked as an Account Relation Officer in the First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named him as one of the country's 10 outstanding young men. When he was a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He coached his university team in 1975. In 1993, he joined at the University of South Florida's athletic department as assistant director. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In addition, he was inducted into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989, the Oklahoma City Chapter of the National Football Foundation in 1989 gave its Distinguished American Award to his parents Mr. and Mrs.. Lucious Selmon Sr. The presentation was made by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
